Surely you are aware of an artistic phenomenon that’s sweeping the world: coloring for adults and health. Adult-specific coloring caught on a couple years ago and is growing in popularity with each passing month. Have you ever asked yourself why coloring for adults is such a big hit? Sure, coloring is fun, but so are lots of other things that are not so sensational. What is it about coloring that is so captivating? Why are adult-specific coloring books selling by the millions? There are a variety of reasons for this, but a biggie is that coloring leads to better health for adults – physical and emotional.

The Mayo Clinic Affirms the Health Benefits of Coloring for Adults

There are several ways that coloring in adult-specific coloring books can benefit your health. Primarily, coloring promotes mindfulness and stress relief, which each offer a myriad of health benefits. These benefits have not merely been noted by those who partake of this trendy activity; major health organizations also recognize the usefulness of coloring for stress relief, etc. One of these organizations is the revered and trusted Mayo Clinic.

Along with others, the Mayo Clinic acknowledges that coloring is great at encouraging mindfulness and fighting the effects of stress in adults. In the video Mayo Clinic Minute: Benefits of Coloring, Mayo Clinic contributors connect coloring with something called mindfulness-based stress reduction. They say coloring is “a way of kind of turning off the chatter and the noise in the world a little bit and giving your brain a rest.” We could all use a rest for our brains as often as possible! Obviously, the more we rest our minds, the calmer we will be. Reducing stress via mindfulness is one of the primary ways coloring benefits adults.

The Mayo Clinic’s video also reminds viewers of the dangers of stress, warning them that it can cause “body aches, fatigue, sleep problems, anxiety, and even depression. So, maybe, in the moment when you color that red flower, you forget about your overbooked to-do list and other worries and relax…at least for a while.”

Another Mindfulness-Promoting Artistic Activity for Adults

Adults who notice that they receive considerable benefits from coloring may also benefit from SegPlay Mobile or SegPlay PC. SegPlay is a digital paint-by-number game that is relaxing, but is also as challenging as a player wants it to be. It can either be downloaded for free on a person’s mobile device or it can be downloaded onto a Windows PC. Like coloring, SegPlay promotes mindfulness. The best things about SegPlay are the hundreds of digital paint-by-number patterns compatible with it. Whether you love flowers, a specific historical artist, or windmills, SegPlay’s patterns have got you covered. What a great way to forget the worries of your day!

As an adult, what health benefits have you noticed from coloring in adult-specific coloring books? How often do you partake of this activity? We would love to hear from you about this, so please leave a comment for us in the section below. Happy coloring!
