2016-04-09 03.46.57Each month, we here at Segmation have the honor and high privilege of interviewing an artist who catches our eye. We strive to find individuals we think our readers will enjoy getting to know and who have unusual talent. Have you read our past interviews? Some of the most popular are How to Live an Artist’s Dream: A Tale of Two Brothers, Artist Andrea Jetton’s Warmth Is What Makes Her So Cool, and Angela K. Stout Pursued Art Therapeutically, Became Professional Artist. Check these out after you’ve read our exciting interview with May’s artist of the month: Frank Jaehne:Abstract Painter, Modern Artist, Dreamer.

Frank Jaehne, a modern artist and abstract painter located in Hannover, Germany, is someone anyone would want to befriend. He’s kind, warm, open-minded, and extremely talented. But what we like most about Frank is how comfortable he is on his artistic journey. Perfectionism often plagues artists, making them sometimes uptight and not so fun to be around. Not so with Frank. He has big plans for his artistic future and is certainly not ashamed to dream, but is also not ashamed of being where he is on his path as an artist. He is not yet where he wants to be, but he is enjoying where he is now. This is a lesson most artists never learn. Props to Mr. Jaehne for figuring this out early on in the game.

20160428_001635Inspiration is something worth its weight in gold. People are constantly looking for it, and artists will do just about anything to become inspired. Frank Jaehne is both aspiring and inspiring. We believe he is a rising star that artists can look to in order to attain hope, inspiration, and peace in the midst of the sometimes-tumultuous artistic path.

It’s not just Jaehne’s attitude that inspires – it’s also his incredible work. Influenced heavily by artist Gerhard Richter, Frank Jaehne’s paintings are modern art at its finest. We can only imagine where this artist will be in a few years.

Enough from us; we want you to hear from Frank directly. Read on to find out more about this fascinating artist.

Segmation’s Exclusive Interview with Abstract Painter Frank Jaehne

S: Frank, around what age did you know you wanted to be an artist? Was it an “aha” moment, or was it more a gentle understanding that this was what you were meant to be?

F: Actually, I just discovered a few years ago (when my daughter was born) that I wanted to be an artist. Somehow that was my “aha” moment. My grandfather was an artist and apparently passed the artist gene on to me.

20160520_001342S: What artist has been most influential to you, and in what ways?

F: Gerhard Richter, the famous German artist, has influenced my artwork very much. I tried to find my own style, though, and I have worked my way along and improved my style more and more over the years.

S: If you could give an aspiring painter (who wants to be a professional artist) any piece of advice, what would it be?

F: Lock yourself up and practice! Try playing loud music and having a drink while you create art. I usually work overnight when it’s quiet outside and no one stops by.

S: Tell us a little about your artistic process. (For example: where does your inspiration come from? About how long does it take you to complete a piece of art? What is your favorite part of the process of creating a work of art?)

F: My inspiration more or less comes during the process of creation. When I get started I just have a slight idea of what will come out of it but never know exactly what I’m going to end up with. I start picking colours and go from there. Sometimes even days later I go back and change my artwork completely.

S: What is your favorite piece of art that you have ever created?

F: The one pictured below.

S: What is your favorite color?

F: Green.

S: Artistically/professionally, where do you see yourself in the next 3 years? Where would you love to be in 10 years? What do you want people to remember about you?

F: I just want to be successful. I’d like to sell my artwork internationally, and it would be a dream to be able to make a living as an artist. I’d like to be remembered by my colourful pieces of artwork. They are my legacy.
