The 3 Best Art Museums and Galleries in Paris

February 28, 2017 Jessica 0 Comments

Carlos Ruiz Zafón once said, “Paris is the only city in the world where starving to death is still considered an art.” This statement is both funny and profound. Truly, Parisians have turned dining, dressing, dancing, and flirting into art forms. In Paris, patronizing the arts is also an art form. Tens of millions of individuals from all over the world visit various Parisian art museums and galleries. It seems the combination of art and Paris is nearly irresistible.

Are you against the idea of planning a trip to Paris, the most-visited city in the world? If so, it may be best for you to stop reading this right now. Learning about the best art museums and galleries in the City of Light will definitely make you want to check the price of plane tickets. Here’s just a tiny sampling of the breathtaking art museums and galleries that reside in Paris:

1) The Louvre – Naturally, no one can discuss art in Paris without bringing up the Louvre. The Louvre is home to some 35,000 pieces of art and is the largest museum in the world. Amazingly, the 35,000 objects’ eras range from prehistoric to 21st Century. The Louvre receives over 9 million visitors per year. Each visitor most enjoys different pieces of art, but there are a few items that seem to stand out to just about everyone. These art pieces include Venus de Milo, The Mona Lisa, Oedipus and the Sphinx, and Cy Twombly’s Ceiling.

2) Galerie Perrotin If you’re unfamiliar with Emmanuel Perrotin’s art gallery, get ready for a treat. Located at 76, rue de Turenne, Galerie Perrotin tends to draw contemporary-art enthusiasts. Referring to the artist himself, Girl’s Guide to Paris wrote, “Emmanuel Perrotin is known for being quirky and fearless. He represented artists like Sophie Calle and Takashi Murakami before their works sold for millions of dollars. Besides owning a gallery in Paris, founded in the late 1980s, Perrotin also owns a gallery in the hip Miami district of Wynwood.”

3) Centre Georges Pompidou – Paris regulars who haven’t yet visited Centre Georges Pompidou are missing out. The Pompidou stands out from other art museums by its modern appearance. Established in 1977, The Pompidou’s “modern and contemporary art collection ranges from Picasso, Matisse, and the surrealists to the latest trends in installation and video and work by artists from emerging countries,” wrote Natasha Edwards in her Telegraph article Paris’s Best Museums and Art Galleries. How fun would it be to visit the Louvre one day and the Pompidou the next?
