Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) was a Mexican artist who drew from the indigenous culture of her homeland for her subject matter. She was greatly involved by the Mexican Revolution of 1910 in her youth. When she was 18, she got severly injured in a bus accident which left her bed ridden and in pain for much of her life. This accident also had a profound impact on her drawing style. Many of her works included self portraits which depicted her pain in a surrealist manner. She was married to fellow Mexican artist, Diego Rivera and both were considered communist sympathizers.
